Fight to block a new Tesco store goes on

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 23:00

PROTESTERS vowed to continue their campaign against a superstore in a Devon town as a public inquiry drew to a close.

Tesco was appealing against planning refusal by East Devon District Council to relocate its supermarket in Battishorne Way to Ottery Moor Lane at Honiton. Inquiry inspector David Nicholson heard the new store covering an area of more than 50,000sq ft would be the company's biggest in the Exeter area and 10,000sq ft larger than their outlet at Clyst Heath.

But the No Tesco Relocation action group from Honiton has strongly objected to the scheme.

The result of the six-day inquiry will not be known for several weeks.
