Firefighters rescue man from blaze

Monday, February 08, 2010, 23:00

A MAN had to be rescued from his city centre home by firefighters at the weekend.

A neighbour to the flat in Jubilee Court, Queen Street, called fire services on hearing an alarm in the early hours of Saturday and when crews arrived they found a fire in the property.

Two crews from Topsham had to force entry into the property when they could not rouse the occupant. They then led one man to safety.

He was treated at the scene by the ambulance service for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews determined that the blaze was accidental and had been caused by unattended cooking.

Three fire engines attended a blaze in a loft at a home in Feniton.

The fire, which broke out at around 4.45pm on Saturday at a home in Exeter Close, involved an electric shower, and was dealt with by crews using hoses and breathing apparatus.
