Guest alpacas are kings of the castle

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 23:00

TWO unusual guests are spending their summer holiday at Powderham Castle.

The alpacas are staying at the Secret Garden at the castle, in Kenton, near Exeter, along with other creatures such as pot-bellied pigs, a pony and fluffy guinea pigs.

General manager Simon Fishwick said that Giuseppe and Abraham had become favourites with visitors.

He said: "We're thrilled to have them with us. They have been made very welcome by the other animals in the Secret Garden, especially Harry, our donkey. They were quite shy when they first arrived but now they've really settled in and are feeding out of visitors' hands. They're quite greedy and great fun.

"People really like seeing them — they've been a big hit. Now we're looking at what other animals we might get in."

Visitors to the castle can also see a birds of prey display daily at 2.30pm.
