Meet Elvis — king of the scarecrows

Monday, August 11, 2008, 23:00

SCARECROWS and jams were shown alongside paintings and flower arrangements at a Devon village show.

The 55th annual Whimple Flower and Craft Show, held on Saturday, saw 135 exhibitors.

Show secretary Andy Bratt said: "It was a very eclectic show with something for everybody. We smashed our record of 103 exhibitors so we're really pleased about that.

"Whimple Primary School got really involved, which was great. About 70 children exhibited things such as plants they'd grown from seed, botanical paintings and healthy lunchboxes. They also made scarecrows which were really imaginative.

"There were about 20 classes including men-only ones for cake-baking and flower arranging. The village postmaster won for best men's cake.

"It chucked it down all day but we were inside. It was a really great show and everybody enjoyed it."
