This is Devon

I AM pleased to say that our Colorado visitors enjoyed their week in sunny Devon. I introduced them to a few of our quaint villages, winding country roads and the hospitality of Devon folk. We tasted local delicacies — Devon pies, full English breakfasts with local sausages, and cream teas… twice.

Sunday we journeyed up to Haldon Forest to take in the far- reaching views across the Exe toward the Jurassic Coast and to walk off that last scone.

It was Father's Day, which is like Mother's Day, only cheaper. According to research, children who have heart-to-hearts with their fathers are happier than those who don't. My chats with dad weren't always happy. Especially when I was pushing for more pocket money.

Are you Tweeting? Ben Bradshaw, Elizabeth Taylor, Oprah and Barack Obama do. You'll be surprised at how many Exeter businesses do, too. It's a way to stay connected via the internet.

Forty-one per cent of young people believe the internet has made them more aware about getting involved in the local community than their parents' generation.

Yet young folk obsessed with Facebook and Twitter are more lonely than the elderly, as they spend more time on the web than interacting with family and friends.

My favourite Tweets this week came from celebrities.

Keith Chegwin: Job interview. Asked if I had a criminal record. I said yes — most muggings in an hour didn't go down well. Dom Joly: Any sport that can lower the French to this level has my respect. And William Shatner (Kirk) to Leonard Nimoy (Spock): You're working, you pay!! Did you forget your wallet?

Finally, if your name is Colin, be careful. Research has found that men named Colin are more likely to have high blood pressure and a higher risk of heart attack. Then findings in a separate survey discovered that motorists should steer clear of drivers named Clark. The surname topped a list of common names most likely to be involved in a road crash.

Stay safe all, especially Colin Clark. Enjoy the weather and Exeter Summer Festival. Ciao.
