I refuse to abide by the Hunting Act
I HAVE written to Professor John Cooper QC, the chief executive of The League Against Cruel Sports, with regard to my continued use of dogs to chase wild deer on my farm.
I am copying the letter to you for your reference.
"I did telephone the police a while back to check on the latest advice regarding flushing and chasing wild deer and was informed that it was only legal if the conditions in the Hunting Act are met. I was also informed however that the Act would not be enforced unless a complaint was made.
I am assuming that Professor Cooper will not make a complaint and nor will any of the other people I copy this too. Actions speak louder than words and if these people actually believed that the Hunting Act was a sound justified and proportionate law I am sure they would. The conditions in the Hunting Act are ridiculous I will not obey them and should you seek to prevent me setting my dogs after deer I will take all necessary non-violent steps to prevent you doing so."
As the letter makes clear the Government have confirmed to my MP that the law does not even make it clear that it is illegal to chase wild mammals with dogs as I do.
The view of Nick Harvey is that it is actually perfectly legal.
In any event I shall continue.
