I WOULD like to comment on the excellent letter from John Rimington.

It was good to get an explanation from a veterinary surgeon on what invariably happens to an animal when it is being hunted, apart from the obvious cruelty of the kill.

At this time of the year cub hunting takes place illegally. This gives the lie to the hunt's statements that they are conducing a trail hunt — legally.

Then why should these hunts need to train young hounds to kill foxes by setting them on to fox cubs which are inexperienced and still dependent on their mothers? If they are really trail hunting this would not be necessary.

If, like me, you are revolted by the idea that wild animals can be hunted for fun, or for any other reason, please write to your MP and ask him or her to vote against the repeal of the Hunting Act which David Cameron has promised some of his supporters.

We must not return to this barbarity.

“Joan Jones trots out all the old discredited propaganda from the LACS people - does she really think anyone believes it any more? Joan, if you know anything about hunting you know that most hunts always do their utmost to hunt within the law. You may also know that the banning of hunting leads to much crueller methods of fox control being used. Those who understand hunting, the countryside, and animal welfare, should back repeal.”
