Exeter Northcott, Stocker Road: English Touring Opera - Autumn Season. The Emperor of Atlantis by Viktor Ullmann - 7.30pm *. The Emperor of Atlantis (Der Kaiser von Atlantis) was written when Viktor Ullmann (composer) and Peter Kien (writer) were prisoners at the Terezin concentration camp during World War II, and has since been acclaimed as an extraordinary testament of wit and humanity in the face of barbarity. James Conway's new production will be accompanied by a staging of J.S. Bach's sublime cantata, Christ lag in Todes Banden. Sung in English translation. * The Emperor of Atlantis / Christ lag in Todes Banden will start at 8.15pm. The performance will be preceded at 7.30pm by Towards an Unknown Port, a 10-minute cycle of songs written by Helen Chadwick in response to the opera and performed by a local amateur choir. This will be followed by a pre-show talk to give further background and context to the issues raised in the opera. Your ticket also entitles you to attend these extra events. Exeter Corn Exchange, Market Street: Live Wire AC/DC & The ZZ Tops - Livewire are the AC/DC show with a big difference! The band bring the full size 'DC show to the fans - complete with the cannons, the walkways, the backdrops, the drapes and a rock hard rhythm section, it's easy to see why Livewire are considered to be the ultimate tribute to AC/DC. Salem players is a group of writer performers who have met regularly for the last two years in the Salem Chapel schoolroom at East Budleigh. Exeter Phoenix, Bradninch Place: Halloween Zombie Ball - A rock and metal fright night. Following the annual Zombie Walk through Exeter city centre earlier in the afternoon the Halloween Zombie Ball see’s Exeter Phoenix transformed with visuals and decor and plays home to the un-dead for a night of gruesome shenanigans and Halloween themed fun. Mixing national bands with some of the best local talent and a host of DJs this fancy dress event has grown to be a favourite in the local scene. Main Stage: Fearless Vampire Killers, The Dead Lay Waiting, Cambion (filming their new music video), Flame Fracture, Your Mums Beard. Holy Trinity Church Exmouth, Between Rolle Road and Beacon Place, Exmouth: Vivaldi and Mozart. Exeter Festival Chorus, in their 20th season will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Spirituals from A Child of Our Time by Michael Tippett. Conductor Nigel Perrin, Organ Jonathan Watts, Piano Peter Adcock. Following their successful summer events at Buckfast Abbey and the Budleigh Salterton Festival, in October Exeter Festival Chorus will present another exciting concert outside their home city. Exeter Quay Climbing Centre: Halloween Fun ay the Quay - Kids Halloween Party from 3.20pm to 4.50pm, promises great climbing fun for all kids from 7 to 14. There will lots of climbing plus fun activities, competitions, treats and snacks! Plus prizes for the best Hallowean fancy dress (although you will need to be able to put a harness on over your costume). Exeter's Underground Passages, Paris Street: Half Term Halloween Fun - Children are invited to explore under the city’s streets on guided tours and discover ingredients for magic spells. Using ingredients found, young adventurers are challenged to concoct their own magic spell and enter it into a competition with the opportunity to win one of many fantastic prizes. On 31 October, the Underground Passages will be running special ‘Gory Story Tours’, highlighting some of the more unsavoury tales from Exeter’s turbulent past. Children can have a go at writing their own ‘Gory Story’ and again have the chance to win a fantastic prize.

Coldharbour Mill, Uffculme: Mill Steam Up - See the Mill's rare 19010 Pollit & Wigzell 300hp steam engine, 1867 Kittoe & Brotherhood Beam Engine and Lancashire Boiler operating under steam. And, not forgetting the fully restored Water Wheel built especially for the mill in 1821. A fantastic event and an amazing experience. On Steam Up days, the Engines run between 11.00 and 4.00. The Mill-site, shop and restaurant are open from 10.30. Tours of the mill are also available on these days where you can see the process of turning combed worsted tops into knitting yarn on Victorian period spinning & twisting frames. Weaving can also bee seen on Hattersley shuttle looms. 10.30-4pm.
