Yellows boss demands more after 'limp' draw

Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 11:22

TIVERTON Town boss Martyn Rogers has demanded a reaction from his players at Yate Town tonight.

After their midweek FA Trophy encounter with Kettering Town, the Yellows put in a limp performance as they drew 0-0 with Mangotsfield United at Ladysmead on Saturday.

Rogers blamed his troops' below par showing on fatigue following their trip to Rockingham Road on Wednesday night.

But having had another two days' recuperation the manager is confident his men will be firing on all cylinders once more at Lodge Road tonight (7.45).

The long-serving Ladysmead chief said: "There were a few players on Saturday who weren't as sharp as I wanted them so I'm looking for a reaction at Yate.

"It was not the players' mentality but their tired legs which held us back against Mangotsfield.

"Now they will have hopefully had another two days' rest to get themselves ready and up for a tough game up there tonight."

Rogers has more than his fair share of injury concerns ahead of the trip to the struggling Bluebells.

Paul Jarvis (hamstring), Alex Faux (ankle) and Matt Villis (back) have all been ruled out of the encounter with injuries.

To make matters worse Tom Gardner will not be available for the next week because he has gone on holiday.

However Nathan Rudge will return to skipper the side after serving a one-match suspension against the Mangos and veteran midfielder Mark Saunders is back in contention for a starting spot, alongside Glen Gould and Bobby Hopkinson, after a hamstring strain.

With both Jarvis and Faux out for at least another week Rogers revealed he may recall Chris Vinnicombe to the Yellows' squad, following his impressive performances in both Trophy games against Kettering.

But if the former Glasgow Rangers defender is unavailable Rogers said he would have no qualms about playing Paul Wyatt in the left wing-back position, after the youngster's glittering display in that role at the weekend.
