Keohane replaced him, but City found themselves a goal down minutes later when Tommy Doherty handled the ball in the area. Rene Howe stepped up to dispatch the spot kick.

Torquay United were the better side for much of the first half, but the introduction of Gow at the start of the second half start to swing the match back towards City.

Torquay began to sit deeper and deeper. Keohane went close as he tested Michael Poke with an instinctive back-heel before Gow was sent tumbling in the box for a what would prove to be the equalising penalty.
