WILL and Bill Blundell won the feature tie in the first round of the Winter Foursomes at Padbrook Park.

They beat Martin Johns and Ray Cavill in a tight match. New pairing Charlie Durnan and James Ollerhead got the better of Mike Jowitt and Dean Silversides.

Defending champions Duncan Stamp and Phil Moore begin the defence of their title in round two with a tie against Vice Captain Tom Evans and Andy Jermy.

Padbrook's Junior Golf Academy is going from strength to strength — so much so that an extra Saturday session has had to be added. Around 30 youngsters are now attending the one hour coaching sessions run by Padbrook's PGA Professional Stuart Disney. The youngest players start at 9.30am with the coaching for the older ones beginning an hour later. Any new members are very welcome. Sessions cost £3. More information is available on 01884 836 100. Plans for the new year include a junior golf course and a junior evening. New tees will be laid out to allow youngsters to get started on the course.

The weekend's heavy rain meant the November Stableford event at Padbrook Park was cancelled.

Fourball Betterball, first round results: I & M Thomas bt C Hume & N Rogers, C Fisher & D Hepburn bt P Knight & D Turner, T Martin & B Howarth bt P Waters & I Carvell, R Cavill & M Johns lost to W & B Blundell, J Ollerhead & C Durnan bt M Jowitt & D Silversides.
